An autonomous organisation by the Ministry of Education (now known as the Ministry of Human Resource Development), Government of India. The primary objective of the ICSSR is to promote and fund research in the social sciences. Regional Centres were set up in the early days for the promotion of the objectives and activities of the ICSSR in the regions.
